Description
Just down the street where I grew up was the Oak Orchard River which we all referred to as the "crick". The Shelby Falls was favorite hangout spot for us kids. In 1800, the Holland Land Company assigned surveyor Joseph Ellicott the task of selling 3.3 million acres of land west of the Genesee River in New York. He had his pick of any of the land that he surveyed and the choice he made was the area around Shelby Falls. He built two mills on the crick and I believe one was here at the falls and perhaps its remnants are there on the left side of the crick.
