The Open Gate metal print by Arthur Barnes. Bring your artwork to life with the stylish lines and added depth of a metal print. Your image gets printed directly onto a sheet of 1/16" thick aluminum. The aluminum sheet is offset from the wall by a 3/4" thick wooden frame which is attached to the back. The high gloss of the aluminum sheet complements the rich colors of any image to produce stunning results.

My first attempts at painting with watercolors were in England a few years ago. I was visiting family in Whitchurch, England. I had seen this church on a previous visit and knew I wanted to paint it on this trip. After struggling with my early attempt at watercolors I decided to go back to a familiar medium...pen and ink. I used Bristol board. Its a good paper for ink. I purposely left the gate open. I stepped back and sat cross -legged on the ground and began to draw.
I drew a detailed drawing of the scene in pencil with the intention of going over it in ink with a crow quill pen. A tool I was comfortable with.
Next to the church was a little cottage where an elderly lady named Miss Audrey lived. She walked over to where I was sitting and asked with a sweet English accent. "Would you like a cushion?" About Arthur Barnes
Arthur Barnes is a artist who works in a variety of mediums including ink, watercolor, pastels and oils. He prefers to work directly from life and his favorite subjects are landscapes with an emphasis on nocturnes and scenes of the Erie Canal. Arthur has had little formal training but was fortunate to study a year under Juanita Greene Parks in 1982. She had studied under Reginald Marsh and Robert Brackman. Brackman was a student of Ashcan artist/ teacher Robert Henri. Since that time, Arthur has been on a consistent course of self-training in art with an emphasis on learning through experience much like the Ashcan artists.
