Description
Years ago I was on my way back to New York from Nashville. It was during the time when I had a 5 year streak of doing some art daily. I got off the interstate to get some gas. I thought it was a good idea to do a drawing before I got back on the road to keep my streak alive. It was dark out already. I looked out my windshield and saw a Waffle House. I did a quick sketch which I wasn't really happy with. But it kept my streak alive. The next day I quickly painted it. I didn't think it all that great a picture. My friend Dennis Stierer saw it and liked it right off. He considered buying it but decided not to. When it sold at the Lequire Gallery in Nashville he had wished that he acquired it. Being a traveler and a superb photographer Dennis took a photo of a Waffle House in Clarksville Tennessee and asked me if I could use it as a reference to do another Waffle House night scene. I set the pic up and looked at it as if I was looking at it through a window and tried to do it in the same approach I would do it from life. He was pleased with the outcome.
