Description
I sketched this from life in ink in 2016. Kingston Springs, Tennessee. I painted it from memory 2021. The Narrows of the Harpeth is a place where the Harpeth River loops back around and follows its self for almost a mile. Montgomery Bell came up with the idea of building a tunnel through the high ridge and let the river flow back unto itself and form a source of power along the way. With the use of slaves Bell created the tunnel which powered an iron foundry. I used to walk through the tunnel before the land was transferred over to the State of Tennessee. The tunnel was built in 1819 and is 290 feet long.
